After a senseless 1995 murder extinguished his son Tariq’s radiant promise, Khamisa confronted excruciating absence. Rather than descend further into hatred’s vortex, he nurtured seeds of meaning from senseless violence. This conviction to break cycles binding distressed communities birthed the Tariq Khamisa Foundation (TKF). TKF advances nonviolence, empathy, and hope through transformative mentorships for at-risk youth. Expanding from a local initiative addressing gang influence to an internationally recognized model, the Foundation powerfully proves peace rippling through inspired individual actions.
Azim travels alongside former foes including Ples Felix, grandfather of 14-year-old Tony Hicks, Tariq’s shooter and TKF’s first mentee. After his prison term, Tony reunited with Azim too.
